I talked to my Brad tonight. Third time in a week. That’s terrific and I enjoy hearing his voice so much but it makes me miss him even more. (Don’t stop calling me Brad). Time is drawing close and we are all wishing for him to be home like crazy. Hopefully we are on the home stretch. We talked sports. Of course he keeps up better with them half way around the world than we do here at home. He is playing softball over there and has also played soccer since he has been there. (Play your heart out honey). It sounds like he is in really good shape physically. We probably won’t recognize him when he gets back he’ll be so buff. I just want you to know I love you Brad and I’ll see you soon. I’ll be the one at the airport with the huge grin on my face waving really big. Thanks for what you do.
Monday Madness
April 28, 2008 at 7:37 pm (Uncategorized)
You just can’t escape the madness that takes place on Mondays. It’s like people just sit around all weekend thinking of ways they can make our Monday’s more difficult. Today was no exception. Crazy day. My fellow designer did not show up. Owner came in at 2pm. Didn’t have lunch today and the first time I had a chance to use the bathroom was at 6pm as I was getting ready to leave. That about sums up my day. Hope you all had a better one and I hope you are all chillin’ out tonight somehow, someway. Here’s wishing you have a “Terrific Tuesday.”
Every last drop
April 27, 2008 at 10:44 pm (Uncategorized)
I always hate it when the weekend is over. I try to squeeze every last drop out of it that I can get. This weekend was full and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Got to go with the kids and register for the new baby. That was a lot of fun. Did some laundry. Met with “The Bridge” which is always fun. Took a nap. Watched a movie and finished a book. I pray the work week is half as fun and I’ll be just fine. Hope every body’s week is great.
Lost “laugh”
April 25, 2008 at 11:44 pm (Uncategorized)
Steve and I just finished watching the most recent episode of Lost. We’re only a day late this time. Yes Anthony, it was sad, but there was this one part that I just found hysterical. If you haven’t watched it yet, watch it fast and don’t read this until you do. The best line was when Ben tells Sayid “that should do it.” We both laughed our heads off. It was the perfect phrase to take the edge off such a serious moment. I think i’m going to adopt that as my new saying. I also feel they have finally given us a glimpse of what the island is actually all about and how everyone fits in to the plot. Could it all be a game? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
X off another visit
April 24, 2008 at 9:53 pm (Uncategorized)
I completed another 6 month (post-cancer) visit today. I went to the dermatologist today. He removed two more moles today. One from my neck and the other from my leg. He thinks they are okay but to make my oncologist happy he went ahead and took them. I should hear back from pathology on them by Monday or Tuesday. I have one visit left on Monday and I’ll be all through for another 6 months (hopefully).
I went by to see my former co-worker after I left the appointment. He just got out of the hospital last Saturday after having had about 6″ of his colon removed. He had colon cancer. They are confident they got it all. He was in great spirits and was looking very well, I thought, for having just gone through major surgery. He even had his sense of humor back which was always a “trademark” of his personality. I wish him the best in his fight.
I hope all of you are having a good week. One more work day and we have it made. I’m looking forward to the weekend.
Tomorrow is Secretary’s Day
April 22, 2008 at 10:39 pm (Uncategorized)
Tomorrow is Secretary’s Day. How do I know this you ask? Well, let me tell you. In the floral industry we catch all the overlooked and small observances. Today was earth day. We didn’t really have any orders for that one, but I did notice that the MSN home page had the same green background that it had on St. Patrick’s Day. I guess that was their way of “going green.” That really big holiday is coming up in a couple of weeks. It is the one that actually effects most people. It’s Mother’s Day, so mark your calendars now and don’t forget. Either you are a mom or you have a mom. You’ve been forewarned.
I just love spring
April 21, 2008 at 9:03 pm (Uncategorized)
Spring happens to be my very favorite time of year. I’m very passionate about it. I love to see the earth bursting forth with all the fresh greens on the trees and shrubs and all the flowers begin their blooming with splashes of color everywhere. Today was a divine day as far as weather goes. I think heaven will be similar to today. I especially like it when I don’t have to worry about wearing a jacket. Days like today make me wish I didn’t work indoors (or work at all for that matter) so I could spend time just basking in the delights of the outdoors.
This spring we have had the privilege of hosting a mama pigeon’s nest at the side of our house. Steve first discovered it about three weeks ago. There were two eggs inside. Mama has been very faithful to sit on her eggs. She and the babies have survived two horrific storms. We saw them about a day after they hatched which was about two weeks ago. Tiny and naked. After work today I ventured over there and was surprised to see both babies standing up grooming themselves and almost the size of their mother. She must have been very busy these last couple of weeks feeding them. I’d say they are almost ready to leave the nest. God does take care of the birds of the field just like he promised. What an awesome God we serve.
Still Celebrating
April 20, 2008 at 11:06 pm (Uncategorized)
We had the kids over tonight, ate supper together and had birthday cake. It was a wonderful evening. I always love birthday celebrations. It is quickly coming to an end. It makes me sad to see the weekend be over. I had a lot of family events over the weekend. One nephew had an awards ceremony for an art project he had done and then another nephew had his first birthday party. Both were a lot of fun. I enjoyed being together with my siblings. It’s not often that I see all three of them in the same day. Even if we weren’t all together at the same time.
This morning’s Bible Study was great and the service to follow was also. We had a great class this morning and all the students were interactive. It made for a great time of learning together. You guys are all great.
As I write my eyes are getting droopy so I will sign off with a thought for the week. I heard this on Joel Osteen this morning as I was getting ready for church. “Your past does not define you, your past prepares you.” I thought that was pretty good. Your future can be easier/better because of what you’ve been through in your past. It encourages me that, at least, my past counts for something.
Birthdays
April 17, 2008 at 10:45 pm (Uncategorized)
At my age they are bittersweet. I love all the phone calls, cards, well wishes, cake, gifts and visits, but the fact that time marches on is more real everyday. And birthdays are just reminders of that. I had a great day today. Friends bought my lunch and brought it to me at work. Friends brought me cards and gifts. I heard from most all of family. My mom baked me cookies. My boss brought cake. It was a good day. Thanks to every one who made it that way. It’s on to a new year.
So far so good!
April 16, 2008 at 6:38 pm (Uncategorized)
I had to go see my oncologist today. That’s always a scary thing. My blood work came back fine and the visual exam was okay. Anyway, so far so good. I go for a mammogram in the morning, to the dermatologist next Thursday, and back to my surgeon the following Monday. I am 6 months out from cancer so these are all my 6 month check ups. I’m counting my blessings. Catching it early was and is the best defense against melanoma.
I do want to take advantage of this space to urge each and everyone who reads this to wear sunscreen. It is vital. My oncologist said melanoma is running rampant in our country so get educated and take precautions. It is one of the two most unpredictable cancers there are, with kidney cancer being the other, as far as statistics go. Thanks to all of you for your support during my first 6 months! I hope to be a long term survivor.
